Comm. and B.A. My connection to Muskoka goes back to 1960 when Mom and Dad bought a 100 ft. lot on Acton Island, next door to my aunt and uncle. I was 11 years old. Over the next couple of years, my parents and I, along with my younger sister and brother cleared the land. In the meantime, we stayed in a tent and cooked on a Coleman stove. On rainy days we “visited” next door with my aunt and uncle and their 6 kids. Life was crowded and wonderful. My Dad, with the help of a carpenter, built a one room cottage. It was a palace. My sister, brother and I spent most of the summer at the cottage, until we got older and had summer jobs in the city or elsewhere. But we always returned to the cottage for long weekends and Thanksgiving. My wife and I bought the cottage from Mom in about 2017. As retirement was getting closer, we agreed that the cottage was where we wanted to be. We tore down the old cottage and build a new all-season house. In April 2021 we became permanent residents of Acton Island, Muskoka. Both of our sons are married and each has a child. There are now 4 generations of Randall’s that have deep roots in Muskoka and continue to enjoy, as much time as possible, at the cottage. My interest in the Muskoka Lakes Association, MLA, is based on my over 60 years of association with Muskoka. I want to give back to the community that has given me so many wonderful memories and make sure that my children and grandchildren have the opportunity to enjoy Muskoka as much as I have and continue to. I view my participation in the MLA as Estate Planning at the macro level. |
