The Muskoka Lakes Association talks a lot about serious issues such as land use and development, water quality, politics and taxation. After all, our mission is ‘to promote the responsible use, enjoyment and conservation of the unique Muskoka environment.’
But we're not always thinking about politics. As cottagers planning for the weekends, foremost in our minds is FUN! That’s why people have been coming to Muskoka for so many generations: to relax, play and socialize.
The MLA offers a number of opportunities to do all this. Our Aquatic Regatta is as old as we are; at 121 years young, it is the longest continuous running regatta of its kind in Canada. Kids and family members of all ages compete to earn coveted trophies in swimming, paddling, rowing and tilting. Competition is friendly but fierce, and it’s as much fun to watch as it is to participate. Circle Saturday, Aug. 2 on your calendar.
Our sailing regatta on August 3rd invites sailors of all ages to race in a number of different classes. Teamwork, skill and endurance are all that’s required to enjoy this day, rain or shine. In addition, our biennial Antique Boat Show, being held this year on Aug, 16 in Port Carling, offers a glimpse into the past and visitors young and old appreciate the majestic treasures of years gone by.
Of course, fun in Muskoka isn’t only found through the MLA. We hope you will venture out to to enjoy the many unique, fun and unforgettable sights and attractions of Muskoka, from our beaches, waterfalls and adventure treks to to fabulous boutiques and restaurants.
The MLA is keenly aware that the local economy is supported by its seasonal residents and visitors, which is why we introduced the Advantage Card program in 2010 to encourage our members to “Stock up in Muskoka”. This year more than 100 retailers, restaurants and service providers wil be offering valuable offers and discounts to our members.
And Muskoka’s not just about shopping or dining out!.The Actors’ Colony will be bringing three plays, five cabarets, and a touring Punch and Judy show this summer to Bala. MLA members can purchase discounted tickets online. The Muskoka Lakes Museum in Port Carling is celebrating its 50th anniversary this summer.
