MLA Municipal Candidate Assessments

Voting is more than a privilege, it is your responsibility

The Muskoka Lakes Association believes in a strong democratic process. This requires a choice of candidates, an informed electorate and a representative voter turnout. We are very pleased with the number of positions being contested.  Our thanks to all the candidates for their participation, including our directors Philip Harding in the  Township of Muskoka Lakes Ward C and Lola Bratty in the Town of Gravenhurst Ward 2. A past survey of our members had over 90% of the respondents wanting the MLA to assess election candidates and share the results with them.

With this in mind, each and every candidate in the Township of Muskoka Lakes was invited to meet with a small committee of MLA members for 25 minutes.  The committee reviewed the available promotional material and met with 26 candidates over 4 days from Friday September 17 to Monday September 20.  Each candidate was asked to answer a subset of 15 questions that were sent to them in advance.

Our assessments are based on the results of the interviews, the documentation provided to us by the candidates plus other information such as the comments at the all candidates meeting.  With careful consideration of the skills, experience and alignment with the MLA mission on critical issues, the committee did its best to determine the best candidates and assigned ««««.  The other candidates for that position were then rated on a comparative basis and where there is a tie, listed alphabetically.

We have included available email and website addresses to allow you to obtain further information on each candidate’s platform or to clarify their position on any particular issue.  The MLA website has links to all the Muskoka municipal sites and many of the local associations where additional voting information can be found.
