The proposed effective tax increase of 6.37% (but really a 8.49% increase) is well above inflation and not in line with what is happening with incomes and the economy in Muskoka. In the past, the locks have been open 24 hours a day with the small locks. However this past winter, the district has cut the hours of the lock operations. The MLA recently attended a meeting held by the Township of Muskoka Lakes regarding their new zoning by-law. Consequently a letter was drafted and send to the Township with regard to several concerns the MLA had with the new by-law. Read the full letter sent by the MLA here. This notice is with regard to the approval of Gravenhurst's new Zoning By-Law which is in respect to non-complying dwellings within the required setback from the optimal summer water level.
