Muskoka Lakes Association MLA Marine Team 2009 Statistics – June 22 thru August 28
Category Incident Total Assistance: 149 Assistance to boaters in distress - from tows to shore, to cell calls for help. Removal of flotsam, dangerous to safe navigation – from logs to deer carcasses. Advising Coast Guard of misplaced buoys. Fire Response: First response to open fires and having them put out if no permit is held. 28 First response to fires that required extinguishing by the Marine Team 2 Vessel Safety / Courtesy Checks: 189 With owners permission, reviewing all safety items onboard and supplying a written report form to both the boater and Transport Canada. Boating Offences: 134 Stopping boats in the act of speeding, illegal sport towing or other published boating offences and requesting their co-operation to boat responsibly. Above incidents where cooperation failed and information was passed to the OPP. 8 Boat Registration Assistance: 14 Providing boats without registration numbers the necessary forms and procedures. Promotional Activity: 3078 Visits with boaters and stops at cottages to supply sponsor gift packages. Total 2009 Marine Team Boater Interactions: 3,602 In 2009, the Muskoka Lakes Association, Marine Team added their support to a number of additional water related activities, by providing perimeter control and rescue services.
